Sketch helps deliver groundbreaking space for Deloitte HQ

14 Dec 2018  |  News

Sketch, the independent furniture consultancy, recently completed a major project with Deloitte at the firm’s new headquarters at 1 New Street Square, within the City of London.

The 275,000 sq. ft office space can accommodate more than 5,500 people, with capacity for up to 700 clients across 16 floors. The design and fit out of 1 New Street Square is the culmination of a wider Deloitte real estate strategy to redefine the way its people and clients work in its office space.

With a view to consolidate their real estate but still coping with the flexibility of increased capacity, the goal was to create efficiency and choice. Sketch worked closely with Deloitte and ID:SR (Sheppard Robson's interior design team) and developed solutions providing a wide range of work settings.

The results speak for themselves as the office space benefits from a varied selection of work settings, brand identity throughout, exceptional client spaces and client experience, as well as bringing biophilia and wellbeing aspects into all spaces. 1 New Street Square is now the largest WELL Gold certified commercial interior worldwide, as well as being the first of its kind to achieve WELL Gold and BREEAM Outstanding in parallel.

With over 27,000 items of furniture and 50% ratio of height adjustable desking, the programme has achieved an exceptional end user experience from the integration of tech into furniture elements, maintaining a clean and fluid aesthetic. Sketch worked closely with suppliers and in many cases developed pioneering solutions to meet the project objectives.

Figures around the project are staggering: over 750 purchase orders to the supply chain, 300 design drawings, over 1,000 pages of product presentations, 404 deliveries and 32,000-hours to install the project.

Fritha Selwyn-Jones, Head of Corporate Sales at Sketch, said:

“The project has been a truly inspiring experience for the entire team, and I am proud of what we have collectively achieved. The sheer scale and varied workplaces at 1 New Street Square are exceptional and every time I walk through the building, I am delighted to have been a part of this project and witness to the space being fully utilised and enjoyed.

What’s more, in collaboration with Hoare Lea and ID:SR we have completed ground breaking work as we targeted WELL Gold and BREEAM Outstanding accreditations, which we are delighted to confirm has been achieved. Deloitte has been a fantastic partner and it’s a privilege to have been part of such an amazing scheme.”

Will Esplen, Head of Corporate Real Estate at Deloitte, commented:

“Our strategy is to encourage our people to choose an appropriate location or work setting for the activity of the day. We support different working activities, styles and a very flexible workforce, so evolving our workplace strategy from three types of work settings to 10 was a no-brainer. Take your pick from small and cosy to large and spacious. Many of our settings can flex, so event spaces become social spaces, which become meeting spaces, which become working spaces. This new work style fuels creativity and will ultimately generate more collaborations across the business. There are few rules, just to use and enjoy our spaces to their fullest.”
